I see a lot of people with digestion concerns in my office. We have helped thousands of people with stomach pain, constipation, bloat, indigestion, diarrhea, and gas. When people think of digestion, they think of the stomach and intestines, but there is so much more that needs to be balanced for good digestion. One of the digestive organs that gastroenterologists don’t always look at is the pancreas.

The pancreas is thought of when it comes to blood sugar and producing insulin, but that is only half of its job. The other half is to produce enzymes that secrete into the stomach to break down protein, fats, and starches. These enzymes are called lipase, amylase, and protease.

Your pancreas makes hormones to help your digestive system function. These hormones are chemical messengers that travel through your blood. The pancreatic hormones are insulin, glucagon, gastrin, and amylin; They help regulate your blood sugar levels and appetite, stimulate stomach acids, and tell your stomach when to empty.

Suppose the pancreas doesn’t produce these hormones or enzymes well. In that case, the food in the stomach doesn’t get broken down very well, and it can lead to problems in the small and large intestines, including gas, bloat, constipation, loss of appetite, fatty stools, or unexplained weight loss.

What is Pancreatitis?

If the pancreas continues struggling and becomes inflamed, then pancreatitis can develop. With pancreatitis, you will have pain in the upper abdomen, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Gallstones, smoking, heavy alcohol use, certain medications, or physical trauma can cause pancreatitis. When the pancreas is inflamed, it can be so painful that it is time for medical intervention.

The goal at our office is to help you with any pancreas situation before it becomes painfully inflamed. If you wake up in the morning after a night of drinking and have abdominal pain, the body is telling you to take a break from alcohol. We can then decipher with muscle testing if the pain comes from the stomach, liver, or pancreas and help the organ in need with the proper nutrition.

If your pancreas has trouble producing or using insulin, you can develop blood sugar issues, leading to diabetes. Even though there is medication to help regulate your blood sugar, you want to drastically reduce eating sugar and foods that turn into sugar (carbohydrates) in the body. We help thousands of patients not to eat sugar or simple carbs because sugar ruins your health in so many ways.

Nancy Appleton, a Ph.D. who earned her BS in clinical nutrition from UCLA and her Ph.D. in health services from Walden University, has a list of 146 different ways sugar ruins your health, including eyesight, weak muscles, and fatigue, things you wouldn’t even think sugar is causing in your body. Sugar includes fruit sugar. We think of fruit as healthy, and eating an apple is definitely more nutritious than eating ice cream, but fruit sugar can cause insulin problems too.

Besides sugar, toxins can harm the pancreas. Detoxing heavy chemicals and heavy metals is part of getting your pancreatic health back. Ensuring no old infections linger in the pancreas is also essential. I have never met a person with type I diabetes without a parasite infection in their pancreas. Parasite cleanses are so necessary for better digestion.

Muscle Testing Live Demonstration by Ingrid Young

Muscle Testing, also known as Applied Kinesiology and Nutrition Response Testing, is a technique used to evaluate the strength or weakness of a muscle in response to an external force.

In this technique, a practitioner applies pressure to the subject's muscle while asking them to resist the force. If the muscle is strong, it will resist the pressure, but if the muscle is weak, it will give way. This method is often used to assess energy flow and imbalances in the body, as well as to identify potential food allergies or other health issues. Dr. Armitstead is one of the few Master Practitioners in the country.

We also help patients support their pancreas with the right type of digestive enzymes. We have about ten different ones in the office, and testing you for the right one is so important to get results and have the pancreas heal. If the pancreas isn’t doing its job well, the stomach doesn’t break down food properly. Then undigested food goes into the small intestine, and absorption of nutrients does not happen well, so your body does not get the nutrition it needs from food. Without the proper nutrition from your food, all sorts of organ dysfunctions can occur.

Foods that can help the pancreas heal and prevent pancreatitis are white fish such as haddock, tilapia and cod, and mushrooms. The omega-3 oil found in those fish help reduce inflammation, a leading cause of pancreatitis. Fish also contains vitamin D, which has been linked to decreasing the risk of pancreatic cancer. Mushrooms help the pancreas because they are high in essential B vitamins for the proper functioning of the pancreas. Mushrooms also have a unique fiber called beta-glucan which has anti-inflammatory and immune-enhancing properties.
