Applied kinesiology (AK) is a technique that uses muscle testing to assess the health of various organs and systems in the body¹. It is based on the premise that every organ and gland is connected to a specific muscle and that muscle weakness can indicate an imbalance or dysfunction in the corresponding organ or gland. By testing the strength of different muscles, AK practitioners can identify the root cause of various health problems and design a personalized treatment plan for each patient.
AK is not the same as kinesiology, which is the scientific study of human movement. Instead, AK is an alternative medicine practice integrating various disciplines, such as chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition, and psychology. AK practitioners believe the body has an innate intelligence that can heal itself if given the right conditions and support.
AK works by using manual muscle testing (MMT) to evaluate the nervous system's response to various stimuli. Muscle Testing involves applying gentle pressure to a muscle and observing whether it resists or gives way.
A strong muscle indicates a healthy organ or system, while a weak muscle indicates a problem or stressor. The stimuli can be physical, such as holding a substance or touching a body part, or mental, such as asking a question or thinking of an emotion.
Using Applied Kinesiology, I can diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses, such as allergies, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, infections, inflammation, pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and more. The treatment may involve:
AK is a holistic approach that considers the physical, chemical, and mental aspects of health. It aims to restore balance and harmony in the body and mind by addressing the underlying causes of disease rather than just the symptoms. As a result, AK can help patients improve their overall well-being and quality of life by enhancing their immune system, energy levels, mood, cognitive function, and performance³.
AK is a safe and non-invasive technique that can be used for people of all ages and backgrounds. However, it requires extensive training and experience to perform accurately and effectively. AK should not be used as a substitute for conventional medical diagnosis or treatment, but rather as a complementary tool that can provide additional insights and guidance for optimal health.
Dr. Goodheart developed a system of muscle testing and therapy that he called applied kinesiology. He shared his findings with other chiropractors and formed the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK) in 1975. He also wrote several books and articles on AK and trained many practitioners around the world.
AK has grown and expanded over the years, incorporating various disciplines such as acupuncture, nutrition, psychology, dentistry, osteopathy, and more. AK practitioners have also developed new techniques and methods to diagnose and treat various health problems using muscle testing. AK has become a popular and widely used technique among many healthcare professionals and patients who seek a holistic and natural approach to health.
